Rue-ã 's materials include seashells from North Carolina beaches,
Turkish tassles,
antique
glass beads, cotton embroidery thread, scrap leather, and chain.
Primarily an artist, she brings her embroidery work and sculpture into
her designs.
Her latest collection, "Shells and Tassles" is inspired by objects
found in nature, and tribal ornamentation.
Using a combination of antique glass beads from Mali, shells and semi-precious
stones, and colorful pearl cotton embroidery thread, she creates pieces
that feel natural on the body and are easy to wear everyday.
In
the "Ouroboros Collection", she creates leather jewelry
that is as visceral and bodily as the objects and animals which inspire
them.
The vibrant colors of thread create a tension between the organic rawness
of the
leather and the nimble detail of embroidered designs. Her Sea Scraps Necklaces
are
delicate yet substantial, the cluster of shells creating gentle sounds
when worn.
Necklaces fasten in unique ways: The head of a snake slipping snugly into
the loop of a tail,
an antler piece buttoning into one end. With these pieces, Rue-ã
truly embraces her
sculptural inclinations.
